![]() A Hallmarkish Lubi-zone in honor of Red My foster fish, Red Power Ranger, died today. I inherited him from five year-old J.P. and two year-old Travis Gibson when they moved to Texas last July. Red started looking a bit grey and wobbly last night. I found him floating around in a rather irregular fashion this morning. He wasn’t belly up, which was a bit of a let down only because I’ve always wanted to experience what that really meant. He was just kind of lying lopsided midway in the bowl. I didn't check his vitals, but his fate was clear. Red Power Ranger was not red. He was purple. I’ve always had an issue with this. But it’s hard to tell a five year-old what to name his fish. And Red was not a very personable fish. Matter of fact, he was kind of a taker. A me-me, feed me then leave me type of Beta fish. Which was fine with me, since I was never the fish owning type. Well, what comes from the sea, must return. Red was given a proper toilet bowl burial with a double flush salute. Now for my political rant of the day…. I’ve been in a bit of a tizzy ever since I heard Laura Bush’s up close and personal interview on NPR's All Things Considered yesterday. Ready for this one? America’s First Lady announced her big agenda for the next four years. Yep. You guessed it. Boys. Yes, boys. Dubya’s assigned his number one Stepford Wife to head up a federally funded nationwide outreach program that teaches boys how to be boys again because they're certain this will stop America's youth from joining gangs. [Laura says] "I feel like, in the United States, that we've sort of shifted our gaze away from boys for the last several decades, and that we've neglected boys," Hey Laura. I can assure you that I’ve done my part not to neglect the boys of America. So why don’t we save the American tax payers another billion dollars spent senselessly? I mean really, Laura. Based on your selection of husbands, I wouldn’t exactly deem you qualified for this monumental task. Oh, and one more thing. Things have changed since 1956. Gangs are not just for boys. Our hard earned tax dollars at work. Boy am I proud. For the entire story go here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4492617 | |
